I am Jorine a dutch physiotherapist for people, dogs and horses (and now also legitimerad here in Sweden). And since July 2022 I live in Edebäck. I moved here with my dog Joy and together we are enjoying the beautiful nature. We like to canicross in the forest and take a nice dive in the lake afterward. Especially Joy thinks a day without running is a day without living 😉
I have always been a great lover of nature and outdoor activities and that is one of the main reasons that made Edebäck and Sweden in general so attractive. I grew up in the countryside in the north of the Netherlands. At home, we had a lot of animals and in all my first jobs played animal care a big role. When I was 13 years old I got my first horse a Friesan mare called Roos. Having a horse for myself made me realize that I wanted to do things differently than was general in the riding schools. I wanted to come closer to my horse and do things from connection instead of force. This set me on a journey that thought me a lot about myself, my horse and life in general. Roos was a very special wise mare and a great leader of our little herd of four horses. She taught me the first things about what leadership is all about and with Aroha I continued this learning process. I got Aroha when she was 1 1/2 years and I wanted to teach and train her myself, most of all I wanted her to be free and happy in the things we did together. We spend some really special years together with very special moments but also very important lessons. I named her before I knew the full translation of her name and it ended up being perfectly fitting.
The word Aroha holds a premier position within the Maori language of Aotearoa New Zealand. Maori language and practise holds the memory of a time when the force of Aroha was understood and respected by all. Aroha is the creative force behind all dreams. Aroha defines great leadership, ensures personal success and inspires us to go the extra mile. Aroha means Love. However when we explore its roots Aroha yields a profound message about love that is not widely understood.
ARO is thought, life principle, to pay attention, to focus, to concentrate. RO is inner, within, introspection. HA is life force, breath, energy. OHA is generosity, prosperity, abundance, wealth.
“ Aroha” may be described as the binding force of all that is
The word Aroha described what she meant to me but it is also what I want to put in my work. My friend Aroha is no longer physically with me but the lessons she taught me and the force behind her name still is. Like with all we meet and lose again, the things we experienced and learned from them will always be a part of us.
With the experiences I had with my own horses I started giving riding and groundwork lessons. This got me even more interested in how horse and rider move together and led me to study physiotherapy. After my graduation as a physiotherapist, I started working in first-line practices and at the same time I continued with the study for animal physiotherapy. After that study I continued working as a physiotherapist and started Living Aroha to work as an animal physiotherapist.
Now that I live here I will continue my work as an animal physiotherapist here in order to improve quality of life and keep animals and their owners happy and fit. Always with the force of Aroha behind my actions.
